June 17, 2021 Update – Camp Rules

SPJST Leaders-In-Training Camp Superheroes Unite! — is less than a week away. I don’t know about you, but I am getting excited about being together again and having some good ‘ol fun! How about you?

As you know, while having fun at camp, we have rules that go along for the ride. I know what the campers are thinking . . . gee rules!

1.     Have FUN!
2.     Be Respectful to everyone and our Camp Kubena! Hazing is not allowed.
3.     All campers must participate in the scheduled activities one way or another.
4.     Campers do not bring products to camp such as alcohol, illegal drugs, weapons, fireworks, tobacco products, e-cigarettes, or vaping products. These are not allowed and zero tolerance.
5.     Be on time to your scheduled activities.
6.     Campers must be in groups of three of the same sex, when going on bathroom breaks or to nurses’ cabin, anytime away from the larger group and must tell their chaperone leader.
7.     Campers are not allowed to drive camp owned golf carts or vehicles.
8.     No one will be allowed to leave the campgrounds unless approved by SPJST State Fraternal Director and DYCs.
9.     No boys in the girls’ quarters and vice versa no girls in boys’ quarters.
10.    When lights are out — please observe.  Quiet!
11.    Keep your Cabin clean and orderly during camp.
12.    Remember good sportsmanship.
13.    Clean cabins and grounds around cabin before leaving camp.
14.    Proper camp attire and swimsuit must be modest/appropriate and will be always enforced.
15.    No visible body piercings other than ears. Clear spacers may be worn in place of jewelry.

All campers and chaperones will observe these camp rules and the SPJST Rules of Conduct and Grievance Guidelines. The DYCs may add additional rules to accommodate the needs of the camp.

A violation by a camper will be handled by the DYCs according to the seriousness of the matter, and, if necessary, the DYCs will consult with the State Fraternal Director and/or the Supreme Lodge President/Head of the Youth Department.

There are a lot of fun activities planned for you. Guest speaker Mike Spiller will join us Friday afternoon during the heat of the day in the dining hall. Mike is the owner of Games of The World, and he is better known as the Texas Game Guru. He is going to share with you many fun games and ideas to use at the junior sessions.

We will have lots of swim time at the pool, pond, and blob this year. High ropes are on the schedule, and I have many fun games in store for you.

See you there!

Summer Camp Chaperone Training

In 2021, SPJST Summer Camp Chaperone Training is mandatory. We will offer training on the first day of each camp session. All training will be conducted by Camp Director Rob Clift and State Fraternal Director Frank Horak. This includes Child Welfare and Protection training. SPJST will not be offering the online course in 2021.

All Chaperones must make a commitment to be at camp from start to finish in 2021. No exceptions! Chaperones who come in late or leave early leave us shorthanded, and the ratios needed during camp are then incorrect. If you are not there, we have to scramble to find help to replace you. We need a total commitment from each Chaperone.

If you wish to attend camp as an adult chaperone, please realize there is a possibility that even though you may have completed the requirements of a chaperone, you may not be selected. This decision will be based on the number of registered youth and their ages. Thank you for understanding, and we look forward to having a successful summer camp at Camp Kubena in Ledbetter, Texas! If you have any questions, please contact State Fraternal Director Frank Horak at 254-773-1575.
