President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Summary
SPJST is seeking a mission-driven, strategically minded executive to serve as its next President & Chief Executive Officer. This is a unique opportunity to lead a historic fraternal benefit society, founded in 1897, at a pivotal moment—honoring more than a century of service while positioning the organization for longterm strength and relevance.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President/CEO is responsible for the overall leadership, financial performance, and strategic direction of SPJST. The role combines executive authority with deep respect for SPJST’s fraternal mission, democratic governance, and member-owned identity. The successful candidate will lead organizational transformation in response to recent downward trends—strengthening financial performance, modernizing operations, and growing membership—while remaining true to SPJST’s nonprofit, fraternal values.

Key Responsibilities
Establish and lead a clear, mission-aligned strategic direction that improves financial strength, supports membership growth, and advances modernization.
Partner with the Board of Directors to set longterm priorities, report on organizational performance, and lead change with transparency and discipline.
Lead, mentor, and support senior leadership, strengthening accountability and leadership capacity across the organization.
Ensure sound financial stewardship, protection of member assets, and longterm organizational sustainability.
Provide executive leadership over senior staff, ensuring effective operations, appropriate resource allocation, and strong organizational performance.
Oversee insurance operations and product performance in collaboration with insurance leadership to support sound practices and financial viability.
Ensure regulatory compliance, risk management, and fiduciary responsibility consistent with nonprofit and insurance standards.
Lead strategies to grow, retain, and engage membership, ensuring relevance to current and future generations.
Integrate member financial benefits with meaningful fraternal engagement, community involvement, and modern outreach efforts.
Encourage innovative approaches to reach younger and more diverse audiences while preserving SPJST’s identity and traditions.
Collaborate with fraternal leadership and navigate member-driven governance and lodge-based structures respectfully and effectively.
Education, Experience, Knowledge
Minimum 10+ years of senior leadership experience demonstrating longterm stewardship, trust, and sustained organizational impact.
Prior CEO experience preferred but not required.
Experience leading within a mission-driven or service oriented organization, or a demonstrated ability to align leadership style with organizational purpose and values.
Proven ability to represent an organization with professionalism, credibility, and sound judgment.
Experience building relationships with regulators, industry peers, partners, and members.
Senior leadership experience in an insurance organization or comparable regulated environment preferred.
Experience with risk management, compliance, and fiduciary oversight preferred.
Experience supporting longterm sustainability and operational effectiveness through enterprise level leadership and responsible resource management preferred.
Experience working effectively with a board of directors, characterized by transparency, accountability, and clear communication preferred.
Compensation & Benefits

Accounting Assistant I (Part-Time)

Summary
This part time position is scheduled for 29 hours per week. The Accounting Assistant I provides clerical and administrative support to the accounting department. This position assists with daily financial tasks, document processing, data entry, and member services to ensure accurate and efficient operations.
Reports to:  Accounting and IT Manager
Qualifications
• People oriented with excellent customer service skills
• Team oriented and able to work collaboratively
• Self starter who takes initiative, is dependable, and takes pride in their work.
• Extremely attentive to detail
• Organized, able to prioritize tasks, and consistently meet deadlines
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a strong aptitude for mathematics
• Ability to carefully proofread work and ensure proper formatting
Education, Experience, Knowledge
• High school diploma required, college degree a plus
• Proficient in Microsoft 365, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to use 10-key by touch; experience with copiers, scanners, and general office equipment
• 5-plus years accounting experience preferred, working knowledge of basic insurance concepts a plus
• Computer hardware/software knowledge a plus
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand for brief periods
• Ability to sit for extended periods throughout the shift
• Use of hands to process documents and perform clerical tasks
• Occasional reaching with hands and arms
• Clear verbal communication and active listening skills for assisting members and coworkers
• Position requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk as needed throughout the shift
• Occasional lifting of 10 to 25 pounds, with assistance if necessary

Annuity and Financial Services Assistant I (Part-Time)

Summary
This part-time role is scheduled for 29 hours per week. The position includes training to support the servicing of IRA and non-IRA annuities, as well as learning the processes involved in servicing mortgage loans. Responsibilities also include becoming familiar with answering incoming phone calls and occasionally providing coverage for the receptionist’s desk.
Reports to:  Chief Financial Officer
Qualifications

• Self-motivated, dependable, and takes pride in delivering high quality work
• Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a strong aptitude for mathematics
• Highly organized, able to prioritize tasks, and consistently meet deadlines
• Skilled in proofreading and ensuring documents are properly formatted
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents
Education, Experience, Knowledge
• High school diploma required; college degree preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to use 10-key by touch; familiarity with copiers, scanners, and general office equipment
• Accounting experience or knowledge preferred
• Five or more years of accounting experience strongly preferred; familiarity with annuities and basic insurance concepts is a plus
• Willingness to attend IRA administrative training seminars and insurance related training
